About

The Program

We also provide the children with 3 meals a day.

The tutoring program provides academic support to slow learners in our community schools (from grade 6 up to grade 12) by providing them with extra classes 3 times week in English, Maths and Life Skills. The tutoring program takes place in our 5 local schools around Khayelitsha.

All learners in selected schools are identified as primary program beneficiaries and eligible for at least some level of program support. In 2016 Iliso Care Society had 125 beneficiaries on the program. It has been so successful that five more schools have approach us to tutor in the nearby schools. This will increase our beneficiaries for 2017 to 250 learners.

About

The Program

Our tutoring program has helped increase the pass rate to all 5 schools that we are tutoring by more than 60 %. Zola High school students received a 98 % pass rate.

One of the highlights of 2016 was that one of our learners, Athenkosi Mnikina, who had received code level 1 in the first term received extra mathematics tuition from our tutoring program and his marks improved in the third term to the extent that he received code level 7.

The Iliso after-school-care program supports all children in our community and children outside Khayelitsha by helping them with homework, school assignments and research. We have 40 children in our aftercare program.

About

The Program

The focus of the after school care is predominantly to cater for learners who attend schools that are not based in the township by providing them with academic support, sporting activities, an afternoon snack and transport.

We are thrilled to have experienced an increase in the English and Afrikaans pass rates for most of the children who participate in our aftercare program.
